Combining Phone and Computer Writing
A writing thing. I used to be all about Microsoft Word and save drafts there and work on my computer. This is what I did for the two horror novellas I have coming out with Shortwave Publishing. With this new novel I am doing something different I'm using Google Docs and here is the twist: I am writing it both on the computer and on my phone.
For someone who is usually always super busy dealing with running a press, a toddler, and a band there is no perfect time to write. There is only having some actual time to write and using that time the best I can. This process has helped me get 10,000 words of what feels like a good draft. I am usually a messy drafter but pragmatically I have only time for 3 drafts and that third draft is after I give it to Brett Petersen for edits (he's really good and yes my drummer is my editor lol) and revise with his edits.
I think this will be my process for probably the rest of the decade. Writing on the phone has become a little bit of a necessity with Remy wanting to sit on my lap and watch a show about farting dinosaurs, which I can tune out. So having two ways to write has really helped and I also like that I don't have to worry about a Microsoft Word crash.
The goal is to have the first draft finished by December and I feel like I can do it using this process.
